[First Ledger in full : Records and documents of the Easton Library Company] The Easton Library Company was organized in 1811 as a public stockholder library. In 1864, the Company and the Easton School District agreed to joint control and ownership of the library, maintaining a stockholder/school library. In 1895 the Easton Library Association was granted shared control with the School District and the ELC, operating as a subscription and school library. The ELC and ELA relinquished all authority and assets to the School District in 1901, when the district voted to fund a tax supported free public library, a condition of receiving a Carnegie grant that funded a new library building.
